The Special Eyes are a community-created cosmetic item for the Pyro and Engineer. It replaces the default lenses of the Pyro's gas mask and the Engineer's goggles with a pair of team-colored, glowing ones. It also adds metal covers to the lenses, which can rotate, open, and close to match changes in the Engineer's expressions.

This item has two styles, named "Suspicious" and "Bored". The "Suspicious" style adds top and bottom covers to the lenses, making them resemble squinted eyes, while the "Bored" style only adds top covers, creating a look that resembles a bored, blank stare.

The Special Eyes were contributed to the Steam Workshop.

  • "Special eyes" is a homophonic pun of the verb "specialize". Engineers typically specialize in their careers, from the major general disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil etc.) into more specific specializations (combustion, acoustics, explosives etc.).
  • The name of this item is a reference to the 1-800 Contacts company commercial, in which a man states that he has "special eyes".
  • There is a small smiley face hidden in the texture for the Special Eyes.
