The Mining Light was the first unlockable headwear item for the Engineer. It appears as the Engineer's regular yellow hard hat with the addition of a strap-on helmet lamp typically used by miners.

Trivia
- The bulb of the light glows in the dark.
- Typical miner's helmets have a fitting either attached to them or molded into their surface, for the purpose of holding such a light. Since the Engineer wears a construction worker's hard hat, the light must be attached by non-conductive leather or nylon straps.
- The Engineer wears his hard hat backwards, which is not an uncommon practice amongst roughnecks and other skilled laborers. However, this means that the Mining Light is actually strapped to his helmet incorrectly, though facing forwards.
- For performance reasons, the Mining Light hat does not include the hard hat itself. This means custom content creators cannot replace the Mining Light and hard hat at the same time without editing the player model.
- The Mining Light is actually a brace that surrounds the default hard hat.
- The hat description was written by ravn0s, however it should be noted that the full submission ("For Engineers with bright ideas. Or for when you're lost in the dark") was not used in its entirety.
