- Steel toe boots are commonly used in construction industry in order to protect the wearers feet from heavy objects etc.
- A lot of the games maps are commonly filled with construction related objects, it would not be uncommon to find boots like this around a construction yard.
- Jo Pereria, creator of the webcomic "Nerf NOW!!" released a strip featuring a Pyro wearing a boot as a hat mere weeks before this item was added to the game.
