May 21, 2009 Patch (Sniper vs. Spy Update)
- [Undocumented] The Football Helmet was added to the game.
September 30, 2010 Patch (Mann-Conomy Update)
- The Football Helmet was made paintable.
- [Undocumented] The Football Helmet can now be uncrated with Unusual quality.
- Paint affects the Football Helmet's color more, colors are less washed out.
- The Football Helmet's painting texture was improved.
January 25, 2013 [Item schema update]
- The Football Helmet was removed from the item drop system and Mann Co. Store, and can no longer be uncrated with Unusual quality or crafted. Crates with the possibility to get the hat are unboxed in normal quality.[1]
- [Undocumented] Added the Limited attribute to the Football Helmet.
Trivia
- The Heavy's Football Helmet was shown in Meet the Spy before it was officially announced; in the scene where the BLU Scout is spinning the Knife, the helmet can be seen sitting on top of a filing cabinet in the background to the left. It can also be seen sitting on the same filing cabinet as the Spy is talking to the other BLU team members about the RED Spy.
