- Guadalajara is the capital of the state of Jalisco in Mexico, which translates to "Stony River" in Arabic. This would be ironic if not for a series of gasoline explosions that rocked the city in the 90's, killing 200 people and leaving 15 thousand homeless. So yeah, it's a bit ironic.
