- The item's name is a reference to Stardust Crusaders, the third part of the manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. "Starboard" is the right side of a ship; the hat also resembles a sailor's cap.
- The design of the item is a reference to the hat worn by Jotaro Kujo, the primary protagonist of Stardust Crusaders.
