The Alien Swarm Parasite is an unlockable promotional headwear item for all classes. It appears as an altered version of an enemy parasite from the game Alien Swarm. The creature attaches to each class's head differently and sports a limp tail.

This hat is obtained by earning the "Hat Trick" achievement in the game Alien Swarm by completing 2 co-op missions online, regardless of difficulty setting.

The hat description was written by Grug for the Hat Describing Contest, and was slightly edited by Valve.

  • The Alien Swarm Parasite was added to the game.

July 21, 2010 Patch

  • Fixed the Alien Swarm Parasite not being posed correctly on class loadout panels.

December 2, 2010 Patch

  • The Alien Swarm Parasite was made paintable.

Bugs

  • Similar to an existing bug with the Holy Mackerel, the jiggleboned tail of the parasite may become twisted and knotted.

Trivia

  • When the parasite is shot after falling off of its owner, it will bleed.
  • When clicked in the backpack, the hat makes the sound of the parasite from Alien Swarm.
  • Certain versions are tradable, and some are not. It is unknown what determines tradability.
  • There are some major similarities with the Facehuggers from the "Alien" Movies.[1]
