This article is about the miscellaneous item. For the mercenaries of Team Fortress 2, see Classes.
I'll put it in my trophy room, with the othas.
The Scout

The Mercenary is a Miscellaneous medal wearable by all classes awarded by Valve to the Team Fortress 2 community as part of their 119th Update Celebration, as well as the Soldier of Fortune and Grizzled Veteran. It is a rectangular bronze medal worn on the class's chest that shows the class's emblem in the center.

The Mercenary is awarded to players who played Team Fortress 2 for the first time more than a year after its initial release, from midnight October 10, 2008 onwards. Players who installed the game after the initial badges were released were still given the Mercenary badge.

The item description was written by crushilista for the Hat Describing Contest.

Trivia

  • When the Mercenary was released in-game, it was named "Weekend Warrior". Because some players considered the implication that they only played on weekends or had a low play time derogatory, the name was changed. The 119th Update Celebration page changed along with the name to reflect this, as it was with the addition of the Primeval Warrior.
