The Engineer on his new ability to see in the dark.

The Mining Light is a headwear item for the Engineer. It was released with Sniper vs Spy Update as the first hat available for the Engineer. It appears as a faintly glowing strap-on helmet lamp attached to his regular hardhat, similar to those used by miners.

The hat description was written by ravn0s for the Hat Describing Contest, and was slightly edited by Valve.

Trivia

  • Typical Template:W have a fitting either attached to them or molded into their surface, for the purpose of holding such a light. Since the Engineer wears a construction worker's hard hat, the light must be attached by non-conductive leather or nylon straps.
  • Because the Engineer wears his hardhat backwards, the Mining Light is actually strapped to his helmet incorrectly.
  • The light on the Mining Light glows in the dark.
