The Triboniophorus Tyrannus, most often referred to as "Brain Slug" by the community, is a community-created headwear item for the Pyro and was chosen by Valve to be released with the first wave of community-contributed content due to its outstanding quality. It appears as a green, gelatinous slug, placed off-center atop the Pyro's gas mask.

Trivia
- This hat is a reference to the brain slugs that were featured in Template:W. In the show, they were attached to an individual's head and controlled their mind, forcing them to appear semi-comatose, speak in a monotonous tone, and do anything to spread the brain slugs throughout the universe. The brain slugs in the cartoon however, had one large eye instead of two small eyes, as well as two antennae.[1]
- The Template:W is a type of green slug native to Australia.
- Triboniophorus Tyrannus roughly translates to "Slug King" in Latin.
