The Vintage Merryweather is a community-created headwear item for the Pyro and was chosen by Valve to be released with the second wave of community-contributed content due to its outstanding quality. It appears as a black and gold Merryweather helmet, as used by 19th century fire brigades.
The description of this was written by ASpieboy for the Hat Describing Contest, and was slightly modified by Valve.

Trivia
- Merryweather helmets were used by British fire brigades from the Victorian era until well into the 20th Century. Modelled after helmets worn by cuirassiers of the French Army, the helmets were made of brass or nickel. Metal helmets are conductive, which was a safety hazard as use of electricity became widespread, due to the risk of live wires falling from overhead. As a result they were slowly replaced by the modern structural fire helmets, similar to the ones used in North American jurisdictions.
- The Merryweather was originally submitted as the "Vintage Pyrolean" (most likely a play on the Vintage Tyrolean's name) and is labeled "pyrolean" in the game files.
- The initial design had the Vintage Merryweather entirely gold, but the author decided to change this due to it appearing too plain and bright.[1]
