Every one of you deserves a medal!
The Soldier

Appearing as a small gold medal worn on the chest with a team colored ribbon, the Gentle Manne's Service Medal is a Miscellaneous item that was obtainable for the Soldier. The medal was not unlockable in-game, but instead was given away via a hidden page on the Classless Update website.

The medal was awarded to the first 11,111 players who visited the page. After the August 21, 2009 patch, the medals became individually numbered up to #11,111 in the item's description, effectively making each individual medal completely unique.

The item's description was written by Lamech for the Hat Describing Contest.

Trivia

  • The image of the Gentle Manne's Service Medal on the hidden page bears the Team Fortress logo. The medal in-game, however, is blank.
  • The hidden page now bears this message: "To those who didn't, better luck next time...", but no other medals have been released in the same manner to this date.
  • The image on the hidden page can also be purchased as a poster[1] from Valve's store, though it has been censored, with the cigar in the Soldier's hand replaced with a mug of coffee. It can also be bought as an iPhone Gelaskin[2], uncensored.
  • Unlike all of the other medals, there are 38 medals given to Valve employees that do not have a medal number.
